HEY LOVER-TALK TO ME BY DOMINICA APPLEGATE. (Author, Writer, Speaker)

Ever been in a relationship and heard these words: “We need to talk?”
Yuck. Who likes to hear those words?
Well, if the tone reflects “I’m not happy about our relationship and this could be the end”, then no one.
But if the tone reflects “Hey baby, we need to talk. We haven’t really talked lately and I just want to know what’s going on in your life, how you’re really doing, if you’re happy with me and our relationship, etc.”

Bwoman texting

Our text messages say a lot about our marriage.

While scrolling through my phone and reading the text exchange between my husband and I, I see a love story.

No, I don’t see a bunch of X’s, O’s and lovey dovey emoticons. But I do see mistakes, arguments, parenting advice and venting sessions. I see two people navigating this life together. I see a parenting partner. I see a best friend. I see a union that thrives on a healthy dose of sarcasm.

When I read our text messages, I see a real marriage.

And I laugh.

….

1. This may be the most truthful text message I’ve ever sent my husband, but honesty is key in a successful relationship.

knew that eventually Jenn, my ex, would start dating someone. I was okay with that. We had too much of a past to ever consider getting back together, and the present was too good to consider changing. I thought we’d already been through the hardest part. We’d managed to get past the breakup of a five-year relationship, which culminated in my return to drug and alcohol rehab. We’d navigated our way through the short sale of our home. We’d had to get lawyers. We’d fielded questions from Lola, our four-year-old daughter, as to why Mommy and Daddy were no longer living together. Each hurdle proved to be difficult, but we agreed on one basic premise: What’s best for Lola?

30 Things to Start Doing for Yourself

Our previous article, 30 Things to Stop Doing to Yourself, was well received by most of our readers, but several of you suggested that we follow it up with a list of things to start doing.  In one reader’s words, “I would love to see you revisit each of these 30 principles, but instead of presenting us with a ‘to-don’t’ list, present us with a ‘to-do’ list that we all can start working on today, together.”  Some folks, such as readers Danny Head and Satori Agape, actually took it one step further and emailed us their own revised ‘to-do’ versions of the list.

So I sat down last night with our original article and the two reader’s revisions as a guide, and a couple hours later finalized a new list of 30 things; which ended up being, I think, a perfect complement to the original.

Here it is, a positive ‘to-do’ list for the upcoming year – 30 things to start doing for yourself:

  1. Start spending time with the right people. – These are the people you enjoy, who love and appreciate you, and who encourage you to improve in healthy and exciting ways.  They are the ones who make you feel more alive, and not only embrace who you are now, but also embrace and embody who you want to be, unconditionally.

What Guys Think When They Meet An Attractive Woman Who Is Still Single

When I first read this question I had no idea how to take it.  I thought an attractive woman would know why she’s still single.

I reasoned if she has some reasonable choices then maybe she’s choosing to be single for something very clear in her mind.

But then it hit me… it’s not a broad question where it’s hard to define the answer for every attractive woman. It’s the bigger question which states…

What reasons would a guy give in which he believes an attractive woman is (still) single?

But wait… there’s more. First you get the list and then I’ll pass along the real question which I believe you’ll want to stick around for because the answer I feel is something lots of women should know about guys.
